In the last two tutorials, we saw how you can create a video ad unit and a video ad line item in DFP. Now, we are left with the last step of uploading the video ad creative in DFP so that we can begin with serving video ads. We recommend using DFP to serve video ads since this can increase your overall video ad revenue since header bidding in videos is still an emerging concept. You can make use of DFP to increase the competition on your video inventory and make money from it. So, let’s get started with the final step of the setup and go live with video ads served via DFP.

  • How to Add Video Ad Creatives in DFP?

    1. Once you’ve updated your video line item, the next task is to click on the line item and then click on ‘new creative set’.

    2. Now you need to name the creative set.

    3. Now here, you have the option to set any of the three creative types for video ads.

    Video

A video creative appears as a pre-roll, mid-roll, or post-roll. Video ads can be hosted by DFP or a third party.

    Click Video.

Enter your creative set details, including a click-through URL, a duration, and any third-party tracking URLs. Select from the available asset hosting options:

Here you need to provide the click-through URL, the name of the video, set the duration, add skippability, and third-party tracking, and put any custom variables that you want to track. Now, you need to drag and drop the video creative from your computer if it is DFP-hosted creative.

Alternately, the video can be externally hosted or hosted on Youtube. Publishers have the option to choose either of the options if they don’t want the video ad creative to be hosted on DFP. Once done, click on the Save button.

    Overlay

The overlay is basically an image with a click-through URL. You can add the image creative, the click-through URL, and set the duration of the overlay ad to appear on the website. Additionally, you can have custom fields and a third-party URL for additional tracking.

    Redirect

A redirect creative is a third-party hosted ad that contains one or more video ads and/or overlay ads. Redirects require advertiser-provided VAST tags. So, basically, redirects are third-party video ad tags which can be served by DFP. You need to click on the checkbox on skippable tracking to see engagement metrics on your website.

While uploading the creatives, make sure you check the click-through URLs and set ad durations and other necessary fields in the required boxes. Also, we recommend hosting large video files on separate servers or serve them from YouTube since DFP has some file hosting limits and cannot accommodate video creatives which are larger in size.

Thus, once your creatives are set, you can choose the video ad unit and place it on the video player to get started with. We recommend using video players like Radiant Media Player (get in touch with us if you want a discount coupon) or Brid.tv based on the requirement of your traffic. With Brid.tv you don’t need to set up the player or anything. Just signup to their interface and set up the player and the playlist to get started. However, Brid.tv won’t be a good solution if your site generates millions of views every month since their custom pricing will be higher and radiant media player’s deal will be more cost-effective. Thus, we hope this tutorial on ‘How to add video creatives in DFP’ has been helpful for you. Keep visiting Blognife for more interesting content and optimization tips to boost your ad revenue.
